Grass-Fed Bison

Our source for bison products comes from northern Wisconsin where the animals are grazed on prairie grass with NO chemicals, hormones, or grains - EVER! The animals are 100% grass fed, and are also “finished” on grass. Extra measures are taken to keep the animals in a very low stress, natural environment, which insures a more tender and sweeter tasting meat. The products offered here are from the same buffalos that supply top-quality bison to many fine restaurants and shops across the U.S. Now you can have this premium source of meat delivered directly to your home! Grass-fed animals have been shown to be higher in Omega 3 fatty acids than grain-fed and finished livestock. CLA is also an essential fatty acid found primarily in grass-fed animals. Some studies have also shown that grass-fed bison contain up to 4 times more selenium than grain-fed bison.

Bison contains more protein in relation to calories than beef. Bison are very hearty animals and are genetically a purer strain of red meat than most other meats. Bison do not have to be kept in barns, and can survive very harsh winters, finding grass to eat even when buried by a couple feet of snow! Bison is a very healthy, traditional source of meat in North America, and this is the premiere source of Bison in the U.S.! Most other sources of Bison are NOT 100% grass-fed, but include grains in the feed as well. These bison are NOT treated with hormones or antibiotics. They are naturally healthy and hearty animals. We only process our bison in the late spring through fall when they are grazing on green grass.

Grass-fed Bison Beer Brats Recipe

Bison Brat slow cooked in beer and onions and served on sourdough hard roll with sauerkraut ready for toppings!

Bratwursts (brats) are a traditional German sausage, and are popular this time of year, as they are usually served up in German "Oktober Fests" in Germany and other places with large German populations. Besides cooking these sausages on the grill, they are often simmered in a slow cooker with onions and beer in traditional German style, producing a nice tender sausage by softening the hard casing. Our brats are the healthier variety made from grass-fed bison rather than the traditional pork scraps.

Servings: 8
Preparation time: 5 minutes

• 1 tablespoon coconut oil
• 8 bison brats
• 1 bottle (12 oz. organic beer)
• 1 medium sized onion, sliced

Heat oil in a large pan over medium high heat. Brown the brats briefly on each side to seal in the juice but keep the insides raw.

Arrange the brats in the bottom of a slow cooker and pour beer over top. Add the sliced onion.

Cook on low for 4-5 hours, or until done. Serve with ketchup, mustard, sauerkraut, and other relishes and toppings of choice.

They are shipped in coolers with dry ice (the ice is used up by the time it reaches you most of the time.) Shipping charges depend on weight and zip code, and will be chosen at check out. If you are in a hot location such as the southwestern desert area of the US, you should choose 2nd day air or overnight to be sure your order arrives frozen. Orders are shipped Mondays through Wednesday each week. Due to the nature of the products, perishable food items such as meat, poultry and dairy are not eligible for refund or return. If the shipment is damaged we will replace it.
